Yet Another Reminder (For Annelise, 1946-2012) by Edith Kaplan
Were you here I would call you immediately after I open the envelope and see yet another silly penguin staring up at me in greeting. Who else shares our obsession with tuxedoed birds that can’t fly?
Each time I see one you are there in a heartbeat sometimes softly and sadly sometimes like a burst of anxiety and always that tiny space in between-- empty.
Were you still here we would linger ever longer talking and laughing listening and complaining as the minutes fly by across our time zones.
