Unknown Music
by
Alan Brewer
The song
of a nascent harmony,
never before heard,
not yet spoken,
only dreamed of,
waking to silence.
A song
pitched too high
for human ears,
rhythm too slow
to feel a single beat
in one lifetime.
The time comes
when my body dissolves
and the air
becomes poetry.
I sing,
phonemes issue
like acrobats of sound
dancing in rhythms
of air and light.
Then echoes
of the silence
before Creation,
heartbeat of galaxies
punctuated by the birth
and death of stars.
At last, the flight
of a bird rising
to the heavens,
so vast its wings
enfold the earth
in song.
