Join the Vistas & Byways All-Volunteer Staff

We welcome OLLI at SF State members to join our production staff. Please review the summary of each team’s work, and complete the Volunteer Interest Form. We will be in touch soon to find you a role that fits your interests and skills.

Vistas & Byways Teams and their Responsibilities

Editorial
  • Editorial Board – receive, log in and review literary and visual arts submissions; correspond with authors to revise bios and make revisions, as needed; make decisions to accept or reject; organize table of contents; compose the Editorial Board’s messages (Welcome, Focus) and Submission Guidelines
  • Copyediting – review all accepted literary material, and punctuate and format styles in accordance with agreed upon conventions
Website
  • Website Design and Construction - use Weebly.com’s website builder to create and lay out web pages with text, images, contact forms, links, and other design elements
  • Computer-Assisted Graphics - photo editing, text formatting, scanning, use of graphics software programs
  • Photography – take design photos for website backgrounds and accents
Publicity
  • Marketing - review website statistics and feedback, develop campaign plan to reach potential readership
  • Promotional Materials - create flyers, posters, press releases, text for emails, etc.
  • Outreach - plan, deliver, and/or distribute presentations, events, social media posts, promotional materials, etc.
  • Networking - connect with OLLI membership, partners, and other organizations
 Administrative
  • Correspondence - receive and send emails to contributors and others (acceptance letters, responses to reader inquiries and requests for additional information, etc.)
  • Facilitation - recruit staff, convene and facilitate Production Team meetings
  • File Management – assist Editorial Board in generating Author Checklists, Submission Review spreadsheets and Table of Contents pages; maintain shared files on Google Drive (submissions, website text and images, meeting records, author and staff agreements, organizational spreadsheets, policy, etc.)
  • Policy and Research - write policy and procedures agreed upon by the Production Team; research legal issues, as needed
